Scripture & Insight:
Are you so foolish? Although you began with the Spirit, are you now trying to finish by human effort? Galatians 3:3
We often start our journey with God with great enthusiasm and passion, but all too soon, we find ourselves drifting away from His companionship. We experience spiritual impulses, but they are quickly replaced by carnal constraints. This is a common phenomenon, not just in our personal lives, but also in institutions that were born out of spiritual revivals. What began as a vibrant, Spirit-led movement often ends up as a mere form, devoid of life and power. We must be careful not to rely on mechanical means to sustain us, but rather, we must continually draw from the fountains of eternal life.
Reflect and Ask yourself
Are there any spiritual impulses or passions that I’ve allowed to wane over time? How can I ensure that I continue to draw from the fountains of eternal life, rather than relying on mechanical means?
Prayer
Most Holy God, save me from the peril of deserting the springs. Let me not lose your spiritual inspirations. Let me not be lulled into the weakness of the letter. Help me to live in ceaseless dependence upon the fountains of eternal life. May I gather all my water from the hills of God. For my Saviour’s sake. Amen.
