Corruption and Redemption

Scripture & Insight

“For it is from within, out of a person’s heart, that evil thoughts come—sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, greed, malice, deceit, lewdness, envy, slander, arrogance and folly.” Mark 7:21,22

What a powerful and momentous fountain the heart must be! All forms of wickedness and vile actions flow from it, revealing it as the very birthplace of depravity. But here lies the great hope: if the heart can birth corruption, it can also be the source of moral redemption. Purifying external actions is of little value if the inner springs remain polluted. Just as cleaning a stream achieves nothing if the source remains defiled, any ministry or effort that neglects the heart fails to address the true root of transformation. True change begins with a purified heart, the fountainhead of life itself.

Reflect and apply

What steps can I take to guard my heart against negative influences and cultivate a source of purity and redemption within?

Prayer

Holy Father, I ask You to create within me a clean heart. Help me not to be satisfied with merely clean hands, but to seek the purification of my desires and will through Your grace. Let Your living water flow within me, becoming a wellspring of everlasting life. For Christ’s sake. Amen.
