Balance for Vitality

Scripture & Insight:

Pay attention to yourselves, so that your hearts are never oppressed with excess and drunkenness and cares of this life. —LUKE 21:34 (RGT)

There is a way of living that lulls the spirit into sleep, leaving us disconnected from God and our higher purpose. Our habits of eating, drinking, and satisfying physical cravings greatly influence the health of our soul. When we indulge the body carelessly, we risk dulling our spiritual sensitivity and weakening our connection to God. The body can be a partner to the soul, supporting its growth and vitality, or it can become a hindrance, dragging the spirit down. By mastering our physical desires and aligning them with God’s will, we allow our spirit to thrive and take its rightful place of leadership in our lives.

Reflect and apply

Are there areas where you might be allowing your physical desires to overshadow your spiritual growth? Commit to a specific change—whether it’s improving your diet, reducing distractions, or incorporating more spiritual practices like prayer or meditation.

Prayer

My Father God, I honor the body You have given me as a vessel for my spirit. May I use it wisely and never let my physical desires hinder my spiritual growth. Help me to keep my appetite and cravings under control so that my spirit may always lead and not be overshadowed. May my body serve the purposes of my soul, and never take its throne. Through Christ, I pray. Amen.
