Genesis is the book of inception. The beginnings of all beginnings. Last year I took a second journey through the bible( am yet to finish and its already another year).
When I got saved, one of the burning desires in my heart was to do a chronological reading of the Bible at least twice before I could begin to pause at books and zoom in to study.
The Bible is one big story of God’s redemptive purpose, it is very important to read it in its entirety. I hope to do more journeys through the Bible as I grow older.
Its been a journey and honestly am still getting on my feet to know God’s Word. For we never really arrive at knowing the Bible but its our lifelong joyous mission as believers to enjoy God in His word till our last breath should Christ tarry.
Back to last year. As I began to read Genesis the very first chapter, the first four words struck my heart: ‘In the beginning God….’ Don’t move on so fast. These four words proclaim that before anything ever existed, God did. That’s huge and worth pondering.
A.W Tozer writing in Chapter 5 of his book, ‘The Knowledge of the Holy’ titled the self- existence of God says that, “Aside from God, nothing is self-caused.” Outside of God everything else has a beginning.
Well, at the beginning of a new year it is normal that we all be very optimistic about how events will turn out throughout the year. 2020 was a difficult year for most if not all of us but even so, God.
As we look forward to this year my exhortation would be that you remember our God was even before 2021 and will be for forever. God is absolutely Sovereign over all things in this world and they all serve His glory.
No one knows how this year will be, my prayer, however, is that our hearts will burn with hope, not because of the optimistic views we have for this year, but because of who God is, the King of Kings who rules and controls all things.
I have written down my desires for this year (I mostly do prayer points than resolutions for each year). I have rolled them all up to the Lord in prayer and rest in the fact that God who is able to answer at an acceptable time in His steadfast love and faithfulness would meet those desires should it be His will.
Unless the Lord builds the house,
those who build it labor in vain.
Unless the Lord watches over the city,
the watchman stays awake in vain.
It is in vain that you rise up early
and go late to rest,
eating the bread of anxious toil;
for he gives to his beloved sleep.( Psalms 127: 1-2).
This is my prayer that I will have a heart disposition of faith that unless God helps me I can’t do nothing and I would love for you to consider the same.
The year will surely have different seasons as is for all the other years. The Lord ordains sweet joys and bitter providences and it all works to sanctify the saints to be more like Christ.
Whatever season you will find yourself in this year I pray that you will emulate the saints in Hebrews 11 who by faith looked up only to God.
Abraham gets to my heart the most especially, the Apostle Paul explains his confidence in the character of God. Hebrews 11 shows us that this faith is ultimately for what is eternal.
No unbelief made him waver concerning the promise of God, but he grew strong in his faith as he gave glory to God, fully convinced that God was able to do what He had promised ( Romans 4;20-21).
So for this year and for all the years that the Lord will be pleased to give you should Christ tarry, I pray that you will walk by faith and totally put your confidence only in God, not in your own strengths or even strategies. Plan yes, but walk through those plans by faith.
Every season you find yourself in, remember, in the beginning God and even in that very season, God. Our beloved Father is a gracious Shepherd who leadth us perfectly and oh He will lead till the day is done and if your are a believer, He will joyfully receive you in Glory when all is said and done. If you don’t have this hope because you are not saved, I pray that God’s goodness will lead you to repentance and see Christ in His beauty and put your faith in Him.
“God knows what I need . I do not . He sees the future I cannot. His perspective is eternal, mine is not. He will give me what’s best for me when its best for me. ” -Vaneetha Risner, The Scars That Have shaped me.
He leadeth me, He leadth me
By His own hand He leadeth me
His faithful follower I would be
For by His hand He leadeth me….
In the beginning God, even now, God and for forever, God!
